We are seeking a talented Application Engineer to join our Railways sector team in the Eastern region. This critical role offers an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge application solutions, manage condition monitoring projects, and drive technical excellence in one of India's most vital infrastructure sectors.
Key Purpose of the Role
- Develop and promote segment-oriented application solutions specifically designed for the railways sector
- Manage condition monitoring projects that enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency across India's railway network
- Translate complex engineering challenges into practical, value-driven solutions for railway customers
- Drive technical excellence by combining deep engineering expertise with customer engagement
- Ensure sustainable and efficient operations through innovative SKF solutions tailored to railway applications
Core Responsibilities
Solution Development & Technical Excellence:
- Design and develop high-quality application engineering solutions tailored to customer requirements within the railways segment
- Create innovative approaches to friction reduction, energy efficiency, and equipment reliability challenges
- Document developed solutions comprehensively and replicated successful implementations across the segment
- Stay current on emerging technologies, products, and services within SKF and partner organizations
Business Development & Commercial Support:
- Support the commercial proposal process in collaboration with Key Account Managers and sales teams for developed solutions
- Generate business opportunities and achieve defined business plan targets for assigned segments and customers
- Continuously evaluate the profitability and viability of activities before execution, considering risk factors and resource requirements
- Understand and effectively communicate value propositions within your area of responsibility
Customer Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers in the railways segment
- Understand customer needs, machinery requirements, development life cycles, and market trends
- Conduct high-caliber technical seminars and presentations for customers within the segment
- Actively participate in industry and segment technical forums, representing SKF's solutions and capabilities
- Manage technical complaints and customer concerns with professionalism and efficiency
Training & Knowledge Transfer:
- Provide regular training and development sessions for frontline sales teams, business development professionals, and application engineering colleagues
- Share knowledge about new technologies, products, and market offerings
- Act as a technical resource and specialist for projects, products, and services
- Mentor team members and support their professional development
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Develop and maintain extensive internal networks across Product Development, Distribution Centers, and segment organizations
- Partner with sales teams during corporate negotiation processes
- Communicate regularly with customers and internal stakeholders regarding products and new market offerings
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams (local and global), engineering departments, solution factories, product lines, and business development groups
Quality & Compliance:
- Perform all work in accordance with SKF quality procedures and Code of Conduct
- Strive for continuous improvement in knowledge, skills, and professional capabilities
- Ensure all solutions meet industry standards and regulatory requirements specific to the railways sector
Required Qualifications & Experience
Educational Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Mining Engineering
Professional Experience:
- 3-6 years of experience primarily in application engineering, maintenance operations, or technical services
- Experience in mechanical machinery, production environments, or industrial settings
- Specific knowledge of railway systems and processes is highly preferred
Technical Competencies:
- High technical competence and comprehensive knowledge of SKF products and solutions
- Understanding of railway product approval cycles and processes
- Familiarity with customer complaint management systems and protocols
- Proficiency in condition monitoring technologies and predictive maintenance strategies
