The Opportunity: Your Role and Impact
We are seeking an exceptional Principal Software Engineer who will take on substantial responsibility for evolving the strategy, development, and deployment of the Power Apps mobile platform. This is not a narrowly defined technical role—it's a position with broad impact across technology, people, and product.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for driving technical strategy and architecture decisions that will influence how millions of users interact with business applications on their mobile devices. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams spanning Engineering, Design, User Research, and Product Management to ensure strategic alignment and effective execution. Your technical leadership will help shape not just what we build, but how we build it, establishing patterns and practices that other engineers will follow.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Strategy and Architecture
You will drive the technical strategy and architecture for mobile applications across multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, and React Native. This involves making critical decisions about technology choices, architectural patterns, platform capabilities, and long-term technical direction. You'll need to balance multiple considerations: current business needs, future scalability requirements, developer experience, end-user performance, and alignment with broader Microsoft technology strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
You'll collaborate extensively with engineering teams, designers, and product managers to advance the features and capabilities of our mobile applications. This collaboration requires strong communication skills, the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, and the capacity to synthesize diverse perspectives into coherent technical plans. You'll participate in product planning discussions, technical design reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
Technical Leadership and Development
You will lead the development of high-quality, scalable, and secure mobile applications. This includes hands-on technical contribution, architectural oversight, code review, and ensuring adherence to engineering best practices. You'll set the standard for code quality, testing practices, and technical excellence that other engineers will emulate.
Mentorship and Team Development

You'll help the team distinguish between genuine innovation and hype, making informed decisions about technology investments.
Required Qualifications
Educational Background and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (OR equivalent experience demonstrating similar depth of technical expertise)
Core Technical Experience
- 10+ years of experience in software development with object-oriented programming languages (C++, C#, or Java) with a specific focus on mobile applications
- 6+ years of mobile engineering experience in Android (Java/Kotlin) and/or iOS (Objective-C/Swift) development
- 6+ years of experience in API Design, data structures, design patterns, and asynchronous programming
- 5+ years of experience driving and managing technical and architectural dependencies across complex systems
Platform Expertise
- Proven, demonstrable experience in mobile development for iOS, Android, and React Native platforms
- Strong knowledge of front-end technologies like Redux/React and React Native
- Experience with performance optimization tools in the mobile space
Professional Skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a track record of addressing complex technical challenges
- Strong technical acumen combined with intellectual curiosity to continue learning and better understanding end-user productivity experiences
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders across product, design, and engineering disciplines
Security Clearance
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Preferred Qualifications
Extended Experience
- 10+ years of experience in software development with object-oriented programming languages with mobile application focus
- 6+ years of mobile engineering experience in both Android (Java/Kotlin) and iOS (Objective-C/Swift)
Broader Technical Expertise
- Experience with mobile development and building applications on the mobile stack across multiple platforms
- Experience with React Native, Flutter, React, TypeScript, and other modern front-end technologies
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and experience designing multi-platform services
- Experience building and evolving application development platforms and frameworks specifically
- Experience building applications on the Azure platform
