Senior frontend engineer developing high-performance marketing website with modern frameworks

 Company Overview

At Hubstaff, our mission transcends merely building software—we exist to empower people to have their most productive workday, every single day. We achieve this ambitious goal by providing the industry-leading workforce analytics and time tracking platform specifically engineered for remote and distributed teams operating across continents, cultures, and timezones.

We've been fully remote for over a decade—long before remote work became a global phenomenon or business imperative. While countless organizations scrambled to adapt their operations in recent years, we had already spent ten years perfecting the science and art of distributed collaboration. We continue to believe that remote work represents the most significant transformation in the modern workplace since the advent of the personal computer revolutionized how businesses operate and communicate.

Our platform serves as the operational foundation for more than 95,000 businesses worldwide, enabling them to track time with precision, manage complex schedules across multiple timezones, and automate global payments with transparency and accountability at its core. From fast-growing startups with distributed teams to established enterprises managing thousands of remote workers, organizations across every industry depend on Hubstaff to manage their most valuable resource: their people's time and productivity.

We're a product-led company characterized by a winning culture, strong market momentum, and an ambitious long-term vision: to become an essential component of every remote company's technology stack—as fundamental as email platforms, communication tools, or project management systems. Despite our success serving tens of thousands of businesses globally, we're genuinely just getting started on this transformational journey. The opportunities ahead are enormous, and that's precisely where you come in.

The Role

We're actively hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our accomplished engineering team with a specific focus on our marketing website infrastructure. This represents a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week, offering complete location flexibility and genuine long-term career potential with an organization that values stability, craftsmanship, and sustained growth.

You'll take complete ownership of Hubstaff's marketing site frontend architecture—built using cutting-edge technologies including Astro, Vue 3, and Payload CMS—ensuring it remains performant under high traffic loads, maintainable as the codebase evolves, and genuinely delightful for both developers and end users to interact with.

This isn't a role where you'll simply be implementing designs handed to you or making minor tweaks to existing templates. You'll be making fundamental architectural decisions that impact how millions of potential customers experience Hubstaff for the first time. Your work will directly influence conversion rates, search engine rankings, page load performance, and ultimately the growth trajectory of the entire business.

You'll work closely with our Engineering Manager, talented designers, and backend developers to evolve our design system, continuously improve content workflows for marketing teams, and deliver seamless, high-performing user experiences that convert visitors into customers. Collaboration sits at the heart of this position, requiring excellent communication skills and the ability to translate abstract design concepts into concrete technical implementations.

We value engineers who care deeply about long-term code health, scalability, and craftsmanship—not just shipping features quickly without regard for future maintainability. We're seeking someone who sees themselves growing with our team for years to come, building expertise in our systems and contributing to our engineering culture, rather than looking for a short-term contract before moving to the next opportunity.

What You'll Do

Your primary responsibility centers on owning and evolving the frontend architecture of our Astro + Vue 3 marketing website. This means making decisions about component structure, state management patterns, build optimization strategies, and how different technologies integrate cohesively. You'll establish patterns that other developers follow and ensure architectural consistency as the site grows.

You'll collaborate intensively with designers and backend developers to translate UI/UX concepts into maintainable, accessible, and fully responsive code that works beautifully across devices, browsers, and screen sizes. This requires understanding design intent, identifying edge cases designers might not have considered, and implementing solutions that balance visual fidelity with technical pragmatism.

A significant portion of your work involves extending and refining our integrations with Payload CMS and potentially other self-hosted headless CMS platforms. You'll define reusable content structures that empower marketing teams to create rich content experiences without developer intervention, while building dynamic components that adapt intelligently to various content types and configurations.

Implementing performant, SEO-friendly static rendering strategies using Astro's hybrid rendering model represents a critical technical challenge. You'll need to understand which content should be statically generated at build time, which should be server-rendered on demand, and which should be client-rendered for interactivity. These decisions directly impact search engine visibility and page load performance.

Continuously improving site performance across multiple dimensions—Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse scores, caching strategies, asset optimization—will be an ongoing responsibility. Modern web users expect near-instant page loads, and search engines reward fast sites with higher rankings. You'll obsess over milliseconds, implementing sophisticated optimization techniques that compound into significant performance improvements.

You'll support and maintain our self-hosted WordPress resources, ensuring reliability, security, and seamless integration with the broader site ecosystem. While WordPress isn't the primary focus, we maintain certain legacy resources that require ongoing maintenance and occasional enhancement.

Coordinating updates and integrations between WordPress and our static site infrastructure when needed ensures these different systems work together harmoniously rather than creating fragmented user experiences or duplicated content management workflows.

Documentation represents an undervalued but critical responsibility. You'll document and maintain developer workflows and content-editor workflows to ensure consistent implementation across the team and empower non-technical stakeholders to manage content effectively without constant developer support.

You'll introduce and maintain automated frontend testing and CI/CD improvements that catch regressions before they reach production, accelerate deployment velocity, and provide confidence when refactoring legacy code. Testing isn't optional—it's fundamental to maintaining quality at scale.

Staying current with frontend best practices, web accessibility standards, and emerging frameworks ensures our technical stack remains competitive and our implementations leverage the latest performance optimizations and developer experience improvements.

What You Should Have

We're seeking candidates with substantial professional frontend development experience—specifically 5+ years of professional frontend development work, with at least 2+ years working extensively with Vue.js or similar component-based frameworks such as React or Svelte. This depth of experience ensures you've encountered and solved the complex challenges that arise in production applications serving real users at scale.

Proven experience with static site generators—whether Astro, Nuxt, Next.js, or similar technologies—combined with self-hosted headless CMS integrations (Payload CMS or alternatives like Strapi or Directus) is absolutely essential. You understand the paradigm shift from traditional server-rendered applications to static generation and know how to leverage these architectures for optimal performance.

Expert-level understanding of HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript is non-negotiable. You write semantic HTML that's accessible by default, craft complex layouts using modern CSS features like Grid and Flexbox, and leverage TypeScript's type system to catch errors before runtime.

Strong understanding of performance optimization techniques—code splitting, lazy loading, image optimization, caching strategies—combined with responsive design principles and web accessibility standards (WCAG compliance) ensures you build experiences that work for everyone, regardless of device capabilities or disabilities.

Deep experience with Git-based workflows and collaborative development is required. You're comfortable with branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and resolving merge conflicts. You understand how to structure commits for clarity and maintainability.

Solid understanding of component-driven design principles and maintainable architecture patterns ensures the code you write today won't become tomorrow's technical debt. You think about abstraction levels, separation of concerns, and how components should compose together.

Experience working asynchronously in fully remote teams is crucial. You should be self-directed, comfortable with written communication as your primary collaboration mechanism, and able to work effectively across timezones without requiring constant synchronous meetings.

Finally, we're looking for candidates with a history of multi-year tenure in recent roles. Frequent job changes raise concerns about cultural fit and long-term commitment to product excellence.

Tech Stack

Understanding our current technical ecosystem helps you assess cultural and technical fit:

Core Technologies: Astro, Vue 3, TypeScript, Storyblok form the foundation of our marketing site architecture.

Supporting Tools: Segment for analytics, Statsig for feature flags and experimentation, Anime.js for motion design, lodash for utility functions, moment.js for date handling, and portal-vue for rendering components outside the normal component hierarchy.

Build & Deploy: Git-based CMS workflows, static site generation with build-time optimization, modern CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.

Location

We're currently hiring candidates based in Argentina, Brazil, Poland, Romania, Spain, and Portugal. These geographic locations provide optimal timezone overlap with our distributed engineering team while maintaining cost structures that allow us to offer competitive compensation for top global frontend talent.

Compensation & Contract Type

This position operates as an independent contractor arrangement, which we prefer for its flexibility and administrative simplicity across international borders. Compensation ranges from $40 to $45 USD per hour, translating to approximately $6,400 to $7,200 USD monthly for full-time commitment of roughly 40 hours per week.

Your specific rate within this range will reflect your experience level, specialized expertise in our technology stack (particularly Astro and Vue 3), portfolio quality, and the value you bring based on your track record of delivering high-performance, maintainable frontend solutions.

Why You'll Love Working with Us

Our remote-first culture is fundamentally built on trust, autonomy, and asynchronous collaboration. We don't micromanage or demand constant availability during specific hours. We judge contributions by results and impact—the quality of code you ship, the performance improvements you achieve, the user experiences you create—not hours logged in Slack or meetings attended.

You'll work on technically challenging problems at meaningful scale. Our marketing site receives substantial traffic from users worldwide, and performance optimizations you implement directly impact business metrics like conversion rates and search rankings.

Our long-term product focus means you can build something you'll genuinely invest in over years, watching your architectural decisions mature and evolve rather than jumping to completely different products every few months. You'll see the long-term consequences of technical choices and learn from both successes and mistakes.

We offer competitive compensation that recognizes and rewards top frontend engineering talent in the global marketplace. Our rates reflect that we're hiring senior engineers capable of working independently, making sound architectural decisions, and mentoring others.

Inclusion at Hubstaff

We celebrate diversity in all its forms and remain firmly committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members, regardless of background, identity, or lived experience. Our distributed nature means we inherently value diverse perspectives from different cultures, geographies, and experiences. We actively work to ensure everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute their best work.
