Sr. Software Engineer, Fullstack
The Position
Come help design, build and reimagine our industry-leading QR code solutions and experiences. As our newest Sr. Software Engineer, Fullstack, you'll join an international and cross-functional team of engineering, product, data and support experts to help us revitalize the ways that people across the world are connected through QR codes.
The ideal candidate will bring a mix of experience in front-end, back-end, API and/or platform engineering experience in cloud-native applications and a hunger for discovering and solving challenging, novel, high-scale problems. Join our team in evolving new wonders for our customers!
Your Challenge
As a Sr. Software Engineer, Fullstack, you will:
- Implement and refine the architecture of our connection-empowering applications
- Design and develop front-end and back-end features for our applications
- Contribute to cross-organizational or cross-product efforts that drive growth for Bitly
- Empower yourself and your peers through pairing, code reviews, and supportive feedback
- Participate in a culture that values structured code reviews and deploying frequently
- Create and champion initiatives to improve the company's engineering setup and participation in an internal open source model with international colleagues

Cloud-Native Development
Strong expertise in developing distributed systems and modern web applications using cloud-native architectures and frameworks that align with our technology stack.
- Experience building scalable microservices and serverless applications
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration technologies
- Understanding of cloud design patterns and best practices
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and message queues
- Experience with API gateways and service mesh technologies
AWS Ecosystem Expertise
Deep knowledge of Amazon Web Services and hands-on experience with core AWS services that power our infrastructure.
- S3: Object storage, versioning, lifecycle policies, and CloudFront integration
- EC2: Instance management, auto-scaling groups, load balancers, and security groups
- RDS: Database administration, read replicas, backup strategies, and performance optimization
- SSM: Parameter Store, Session Manager, and Systems Manager automation
- Lambda: Serverless function development, triggers, and performance tuning
- Cognito: User authentication, authorization flows, and identity federation
- Bedrock: AI/ML integration and generative AI applications
Comprehensive Testing
Extensive experience implementing and maintaining robust testing strategies across the entire application lifecycle.
- Unit Testing: Writing testable code with high coverage using Jest, Mocha, PHPUnit, or Go testing frameworks
- E2E Testing: Browser automation with Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium for user flow validation
- Integration Testing: Testing service interactions, database operations, and third-party integrations
- Contract Testing: API contract validation using Pact or similar tools for microservices
- Test-driven development (TDD) and behavior-driven development (BDD) practices
- Performance testing and load testing for high-traffic scenarios
API Development & Communication
Proven ability to design, build, and maintain robust APIs that serve as the backbone of modern applications.
- RESTful API design following best practices and OpenAPI specifications
- GraphQL schema design and resolver implementation
- API versioning strategies and backward compatibility
- Rate limiting, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
- API documentation using Swagger, Postman, or similar tools
- WebSocket and real-time communication protocols
- API monitoring, logging, and error handling strategies
High-Scale System Operations
Experience operating production environments with decoupled services handling high traffic volumes and large datasets.
- Designing and maintaining systems that handle millions of requests per day
- Database optimization for large datasets (indexing, partitioning, sharding)
- Caching strategies using Redis, Memcached, or similar technologies
- Message queue systems (SQS, RabbitMQ, Kafka) for asynchronous processing
- Performance monitoring and optimization using APM tools
- Incident response and troubleshooting in production environments
- Capacity planning and resource optimization
Modern SDLC & CI/CD
Up-to-date, in-depth knowledge of modern software development lifecycle practices and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.
- Git workflow management (branching strategies, pull requests, code review processes)
- GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD platforms for automated testing and deployment
- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for reproducible environments
- Docker containerization and multi-stage builds
- Blue-green deployments, canary releases, and rollback strategies
- Automated security scanning and vulnerability management
- Release management and version control best practices
Remote International Collaboration
Proven track record working effectively with remote-native international teams using English as the primary language.

Infrastructure as Code Mastery
Advanced proficiency with Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools. Experience with GitOps workflows, state management, module development, and multi-environment deployments.
IAM Solutions Experience
Background in building or supporting Identity and Access Management solutions, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, multi-factor authentication, role-based access control (RBAC), and user provisioning systems.
