Sr. Manager – Hydrocarbon Controls
Company: Nayara Energy | Job Requisition ID:2447
Location: Mumbai - BKC, Mumbai, Maharashtra, IN
Job Type: On-Site | Full-Time | Permanent
The Sr. Manager – Hydrocarbon Controls is a senior finance position that provides critical oversight and hands-on management of hydrocarbon accounting, contract governance, transaction controls and reporting for Nayara Energy. This role is responsible for ensuring that all commercial and accounting activities related to hydrocarbon shipments, trades, and transfers are recorded accurately, reconciled on time, and supported by complete documentation. The role sits at the intersection of finance, commercial operations, treasury, and tax — requiring both deep technical accounting knowledge and pragmatic commercial judgment.
In this capacity, you will lead and own the end-to-end controls for import and export transactions (IST), manage the contractual validation process, and ensure effective coordination with cross-functional stakeholders for L/C management, shipment documentation, and tax clearances. You will use your domain knowledge to design and maintain robust operating procedures, reduce accounting and reconciliation errors, and accelerate month-end closes without compromising accuracy.
Key daily responsibilities include validating contracts and deal recaps to ensure commercial terms, pricing and payment clauses are correctly reflected; confirming pre-shipment and post-shipment documents; coordinating with treasury for letter-of-credit (L/C) operations and discounting; and preparing, reviewing and adjusting financial entries related to hydrocarbon movements. You will perform detailed accounting for import/export invoices, generate debit and credit notes, and produce pro-forma, provisional and final tax invoices in accordance with statutory requirements and company policy.
The position will also own master data governance for counterparties and materials in the ERP system — ensuring that vendor/customer records, tax registration details, commodity codes and pricing masters are accurate and auditable. A crucial part of the role is the preparation of management information (MIS) reports that capture the financial position, exposure, outstanding claims, receivables/payables, L/C status, and exception items for senior stakeholders.
From a compliance perspective, the Sr. Manager must ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), internal controls and the Delegation of Authority (DOA). You will liaise with the tax team to obtain clearances and certificates required for cross-border transactions and ensure proper application of indirect tax treatments. You will also be responsible for supporting statutory and internal audits by preparing schedules, documentation packs, and reconciliations that clearly explain variances and accounting treatments.
Your role demands strong analytical capabilities — you will identify root causes for recurrent exceptions, recommend process improvements to minimise financial leakage, and help implement automation or system configuration changes to strengthen end-to-end controls. In addition, you will be expected to coach and mentor junior staff, help build a culture of ownership and accountability, and act as the escalation point for complex transaction queries.
Stakeholder management is a core requirement. You will work closely with commercial teams to clarify contract deliverables, with operations to verify shipment events and documentation, and with treasury for payment execution and foreign exchange impacts. You will translate complex accounting outcomes into concise management insights and present findings to senior finance leaders to support decision-making on risk mitigation, commercial negotiation points and process re-engineering.
The ideal candidate brings a mix of technical accounting proficiency, hands-on commercial experience in oil & gas or trading environments, and demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives. Knowledge of Indian GAAP is essential; practical exposure to IFRS accounting principles (particularly revenue, derivatives and trade accounting) will be a strong advantage. Experience in ERP systems (SAP or similar), advanced Excel skills and familiarity with trade lifecycle modules will help you hit the ground running.
This role is not only about numbers — it is a strategic control function that safeguards the company’s commercial and financial integrity. You will be part of an evolving finance transformation agenda that emphasises accuracy, auditability, and faster cycle times. For professionals who value both operational excellence and strategic impact, this role provides a strong platform to influence company-level outcomes and grow into broader commercial finance leadership.
If you are methodical, rigorous in approach, enjoy solving transaction-level puzzles, and are comfortable operating in a dynamic oil & gas environment, this role offers a rare blend of technical challenge and career growth at a leading company.
