THE ROLE - LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER
We're seeking an accomplished Lead Software Engineer to join our Application Engineering team within the AI, Insights & Solutions division. This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to work from three dynamic Indian cities—Bengaluru, Mumbai, or New Delhi—providing geographic flexibility while maintaining the collaborative excellence that defines our culture.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT AND ARCHITECTURE
As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll design, develop, and maintain sophisticated cloud-based AI applications using a comprehensive full-stack technology approach. Your work will encompass both front-end and back-end development, ensuring seamless user experiences backed by robust, scalable infrastructure. You'll leverage Kubernetes and containerization technologies to deploy, manage, and scale applications in cloud environments, optimizing for performance, availability, and cost-efficiency.
A critical aspect of your role involves developing and maintaining APIs and microservices that expose analytics functionality to various consumers. You'll adhere to industry best practices for API design, documentation, and versioning, ensuring that your solutions are maintainable, well-integrated, and developer-friendly. Your architectural decisions will directly impact the scalability and reliability of systems that serve enterprise clients across diverse industries and use cases.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION AND LEADERSHIP
Collaboration lies at the heart of this position. You'll work closely with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to define and implement features that align with business requirements and user needs. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders will be essential as you work on multi-disciplinary teams assessing opportunities and developing analytics solutions across various sectors.
Beyond internal collaboration, you'll influence and educate business consulting staff and client leaders, acting as both a technical expert and trusted advisor. You'll directly support and enhance the analytics application engineering capabilities of our clients, helping them build sustainable technical competencies while delivering immediate value through your solutions. This dual role requires both technical mastery and the interpersonal skills to effectively translate business needs into technical implementations.
SECURITY, COMPLIANCE, AND PERFORMANCE
Implementing robust security measures is paramount in this role. You'll protect sensitive data through industry-standard encryption, access controls, and security protocols while ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and organizational policies. Given the sensitive nature of client data and the regulatory landscape across different industries, your vigilance in security matters will be critical to maintaining trust and meeting legal requirements.
Continuous monitoring and troubleshooting of application performance will be part of your routine, as you identify and resolve issues that impact system reliability, latency, and user experience. You'll implement comprehensive logging, monitoring, and alerting systems to proactively detect and address potential problems before they impact users or business operations.
INNOVATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
The technology landscape evolves rapidly, and staying current is essential. You'll proactively research emerging trends in cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and software engineering, identifying opportunities to enhance platform capabilities and maintain competitive advantages for our clients. Through active participation in code reviews, you'll contribute to establishing and enforcing coding standards that ensure high-quality, maintainable code across the team.
Working alongside DevOps and infrastructure teams, you'll help automate deployment and release processes, implement CI/CD pipelines, and optimize development workflows. Your contributions will directly impact team productivity, deployment velocity, and the reliability of our delivery processes. You'll champion best practices in software development, from test-driven development to continuous integration, ensuring that the team maintains high standards of quality and efficiency.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- 6+ years of professional experience at Senior or Staff level, or equivalent
- 3-5 years of hands-on full-stack development experience
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY
- Strong expertise in server-side technologies, including Django, Flask, and Fast API
- Proficiency in client-side technologies such as React, Angular, Vue.js, HTML, and CSS
- 3+ years of Python programming expertise with a deep understanding of the language and its ecosystem
- Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or GCP, with knowledge of infrastructure as code using Terraform (preferred)
- Proficiency with Git for version control and collaborative development
- Hands-on DevOps experience including CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as dbt, Beam, Airflow, Luigi, Metaflow, Kubeflow, or similar platforms
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND INTERESTS
- Demonstrated interest and experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and Langchain frameworks
- Proven experience implementing large-scale structured or unstructured databases
- Expertise with orchestration and container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems

- Strong computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, automated testing, object-oriented programming, and performance complexity analysis
- Deep knowledge of API interface design principles and best practices

WORK ARRANGEMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a minimum of three days per week of in-person collaboration, either at client locations or your designated Bain home office. Regional travel away from your primary working location will be required, with frequency and destinations varying based on specific project needs and client engagements.
