Our shared services model brings together experienced finance professionals who provide comprehensive accounting services including financial management, period-end closing, capital and lease accounting, credit and receivables management, manufacturing finance, and divisional reporting.

Within R2R, the Capital & Lease Accounting (CLA) team specializes in managing fixed assets, capital projects, and lease accounting across multiple entities and geographies. We ensure compliance with international accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP) while providing assurance of financial integrity and supporting strategic business decisions through accurate financial information.

Our team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, serves as a vital hub in Roche's global shared services network, supporting Japanese affiliates and other entities across the Asia-Pacific region. This dynamic, multicultural environment offers exceptional opportunities for professional growth and cross-cultural collaboration.

The Position: Record to Report CLA Senior Analyst (Japanese Speaker)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and bilingual Record to Report CLA Senior Analyst with Japanese language proficiency to join our Capital & Lease Accounting team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. This critical role focuses on providing comprehensive fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, and capital project accounting services primarily for Japanese Roche affiliates, requiring both technical accounting expertise and fluent Japanese communication skills.

As an R2R CLA Senior Analyst, you will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of fixed asset and lease accounting operations, from asset creation and maintenance to disposal and reporting. Your bilingual capabilities in English and Japanese (minimum N3 proficiency) are essential for daily operations, enabling seamless communication with Japanese-speaking stakeholders, reviewing Japanese-language documentation, and providing exceptional service to our Japanese affiliate clients.

This position offers the unique opportunity to work in a global shared services environment while leveraging your Japanese language skills and developing deep technical expertise in fixed asset accounting, lease accounting under IFRS 16, and capital project accounting. You'll collaborate with Country Chief Accountants, finance teams across Asia-Pacific, and stakeholders globally, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and transformation projects that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

Your role bridges technical accounting excellence with customer service orientation, requiring attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills in both English and Japanese. You'll work with modern ERP systems (SAP preferred), support internal and external audits, and contribute to process improvements that drive efficiency and accuracy across the R2R function.

Core Responsibilities

Fixed Assets & Lease Accounting Operations

You will be responsible for comprehensive fixed assets and lease accounting operations covering the complete asset lifecycle. This includes creating new fixed asset master records with accurate data, processing asset disposals including calculation of gains/losses, performing maintenance activities such as cost center changes and location transfers, executing asset transfers between entities or locations, running monthly depreciation calculations, and generating fixed asset and lease accounting reports for stakeholders.

Your lease accounting responsibilities under IFRS 16 include identifying and evaluating lease contracts for proper accounting treatment, calculating right-of-use assets and lease liabilities, recording lease transactions and remeasurements, maintaining comprehensive lease schedules and documentation, reconciling lease balances to supporting contracts, and ensuring full compliance with IFRS 16 disclosure requirements.

Daily operational activities involve processing incoming fixed asset and lease transactions, reviewing and validating transaction data for accuracy, coordinating with requestors to clarify unclear items, maintaining organized documentation supporting all transactions, monitoring work queues to ensure timely processing, and escalating complex issues to senior team members or management.

Period-End Closing Activities

You will coordinate and execute fixed assets and lease month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate closure of accounts in compliance with work instructions, IFRS 16 standards, and month-end Financial Closing Checklist requirements. Your closing responsibilities include posting depreciation and lease expense entries, recording new asset acquisitions and disposals, processing period-end adjustments and accruals, reconciling fixed asset and lease subledgers to general ledger, preparing consolidation reporting packages, and analyzing variances and investigating anomalies.

Meeting strict closing deadlines requires careful planning and prioritization. You'll follow standardized closing calendars and checklists, coordinate with upstream and downstream teams, communicate status updates regularly, identify and escalate potential delays early, and work efficiently during peak closing periods.

Your analytical skills ensure closing accuracy through reviewing depreciation calculations for reasonableness, validating new asset additions against supporting documentation, verifying disposal accounting including gain/loss calculations, analyzing balance sheet movements and investigating unusual trends, and identifying and correcting errors before finalization.

Capital Project Accounting

You will perform capital project accounting for large-scale and large-cost investments, managing the complete project lifecycle from initiation to capitalization. This includes setting up new capital project master data in the system, recording project transactions and expenses, monitoring and tracking spending against budgets, reviewing project costs for proper capitalization criteria, closing projects when construction is complete, capitalizing projects by transferring costs to fixed assets, and measuring financial returns on completed projects.

Your capital project responsibilities require close collaboration with project managers, procurement teams, and business stakeholders to understand project scope and timelines, obtain necessary approvals and documentation, clarify cost allocation and capitalization questions, track project milestones and readiness dates, and ensure timely project closeout and asset activation.

Analyzing capital projects involves reviewing project budgets versus actual spending, identifying cost overruns or savings opportunities, ensuring only qualifying costs are capitalized, validating asset useful lives and depreciation methods, and providing reporting and analysis supporting capital investment decisions.

Accounting Analysis and Journal Preparation

You will analyze fixed assets and lease entries to ensure accounting transactions are performed accurately, completely, and in compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This analytical work includes reviewing transaction coding and account assignments, validating amounts and calculations, checking for duplicates or missing entries, ensuring proper documentation supports all transactions, and verifying compliance with capitalization thresholds and policies.

Preparation of accounting journals requires technical precision. You'll prepare manual journal entries for adjustments and corrections, ensure journals include clear descriptions and supporting documentation, obtain necessary approvals before posting, post journals timely according to closing schedules, and maintain organized documentation of all journal entry activity.

Your attention to detail prevents errors through double-checking calculations and amounts, validating account codes and cost centers, ensuring debits equal credits, reviewing journal impact on financial statements, and implementing quality control checks before finalizing.

Balance Sheet Reconciliation and Financial Reporting

You will prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for fixed asset and lease accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statement balances. Your reconciliation responsibilities include matching subledger balances to general ledger, identifying and explaining reconciling items, investigating and rectifying anomalies encountered, clearing open items and aged balances, documenting reconciliation results with supporting evidence, and obtaining review and approval from senior team members.

Supporting Period End Close team on FINCO (Financial Consolidation) reporting ensures packages are accurately reported on time. This includes completing standardized reporting templates, providing fixed asset and lease rollforward schedules, ensuring elimination entries are properly documented, submitting reports by established deadlines, and responding promptly to questions from consolidation teams.

Your financial reporting contributions include preparing fixed asset and capital project reports, analyzing trends and key metrics, providing commentary on significant movements, creating ad-hoc reports for management requests, and ensuring report accuracy through thorough review.

Audit and Tax Support

Supporting internal and external audit matters requires ensuring timely submission of required audit schedules and providing financial supporting documents and information to auditors. Your audit support includes preparing audit schedules showing account activity and balances, gathering supporting documentation for sampled transactions, responding to auditor questions and requests, facilitating auditor testing by providing system access or data, addressing audit findings and implementing remediation, and participating in audit meetings and walkthroughs.

Supporting tax matters involves preparing tax schedules as requested by tax consultants, providing financial supporting documents for tax filings, extracting data needed for tax calculations, coordinating with tax teams on information requests, and ensuring tax-related deadlines are met.

Your audit and tax support demonstrates professionalism through timely responsiveness to requests, thorough documentation supporting positions, clear communication explaining complex items, proactive identification of potential issues, and continuous improvement based on feedback.

Documentation, Controls, and Compliance

You will ensure all work documentation and work processes are updated and meet Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) requirements, group policies and guidelines, local statutory and legal requirements, and agreed service timelines. This includes maintaining current process documentation and work instructions, following established control procedures and checklists, documenting control activities and evidence, complying with segregation of duties requirements, and reporting control deficiencies or incidents.

Participating in compliance audits requires preparing for audit testing, providing evidence of control execution, responding to audit queries professionally, implementing audit recommendations, and continuously strengthening control environment.

Your commitment to compliance ensures adherence to accounting standards and policies, following approval workflows and authorization limits, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information, complying with data privacy and security requirements, and escalating compliance concerns appropriately.

Backup Function and Cross-Training

You will perform backup function and other duties, including job rotation to other functional teams as and when required. This flexibility includes covering for absent colleagues, taking on assignments in adjacent teams, learning processes outside primary responsibilities, supporting surge capacity during peak periods, and maintaining versatility across R2R functions.

Job rotation opportunities support professional development through gaining broader R2R experience, building relationships across teams, developing new technical skills, understanding end-to-end processes, and enhancing career progression possibilities.

Transformation and Continuous Improvement

You will work collaboratively with Country Chief Accountants and stakeholders to engage and support teams in implementation of continuous improvement projects. Your continuous improvement contributions include proactively identifying improvement opportunities in areas of operation, recommending and implementing solutions in consultation with management, participating in transformation initiatives and working groups, sharing best practices within the team, and measuring and tracking improvement results.

Assisting to ensure effective knowledge transfer supports sustainable development through documenting processes and procedures, conducting training for new team members, sharing technical knowledge and expertise, creating knowledge repositories and FAQs, and fostering culture of learning and development.

Your innovation mindset drives exploring automation and digitalization opportunities, challenging existing processes with fresh perspective, piloting new approaches and technologies, learning from failures and iterating, and celebrating and recognizing improvement successes.

Service Level Agreement (SLA) and KPI Management

You will ensure service level agreements (SLA) and monthly performance and productivity KPIs are met consistently. This requires understanding SLA commitments to customers, monitoring performance against targets, identifying risks to SLA achievement, implementing corrective actions when falling short, and reporting SLA performance to management.

Key performance indicators you'll track include transaction processing volume and accuracy, closing deadline achievement, reconciliation completion rates, audit and tax deliverable timeliness, customer satisfaction scores, and continuous improvement initiative progress.
