Roche Services Americas is one of Roche's strategic Shared Services Centers worldwide, providing comprehensive Finance, Procurement, and operational services to various countries throughout the Americas region. Our shared services model delivers efficiency, consistency, and excellence across complex, multi-country operations while maintaining the flexibility to meet unique local requirements.
Located in San José, Costa Rica, RSS Americas serves as a vital hub connecting Roche entities across North, Central, and South America. Our team of finance professionals brings together diverse expertise, languages, and cultural perspectives to deliver seamless service to our internal customers across multiple time zones and regulatory environments.
Within RSS Americas, the Treasury function plays a critical role in managing cash, liquidity, foreign exchange, and banking relationships that enable Roche's business operations throughout the region. Our treasury operations ensure that cash is available where and when needed, foreign exchange risks are managed appropriately, banking relationships are optimized, and financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently in compliance with corporate policies and local regulations.
The Position: Treasury Accounting Analyst
As the Treasury Analyst for RSS Americas in Costa Rica, you will execute daily Treasury operational activities that are fundamental to Roche's financial operations across the Americas region. This critical role ensures the accuracy and timeliness of cash management, bank reconciliations, and treasury reporting while maintaining adherence to agreed service levels and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for treasury processes.
Your responsibilities extend beyond routine transaction processing to encompass analytical thinking, problem-solving, and continuous improvement. You'll continuously contribute to enhancing RSS performance by proposing process and system enhancements based on your operational insights and identification of efficiency opportunities. Your role serves as the operational backbone of treasury activities, ensuring liquidity is managed effectively, cash positions are accurately reported, and treasury transactions are processed with precision and control.
This position offers exceptional exposure to international treasury operations spanning multiple countries, currencies, and banking systems. You'll develop comprehensive treasury expertise while working with sophisticated banking platforms, ERP systems, and treasury management systems. Your bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are essential for daily operations, with additional languages (Portuguese, French) providing opportunities to expand your scope and impact.
Working within a collaborative shared services environment, you'll partner with treasury teams globally, country finance organizations, and banking partners to ensure seamless treasury operations. Your contributions directly impact Roche's ability to fund operations, optimize cash positions, manage financial risks, and maintain strong banking relationships across the Americas region.
Based in Roche's modern shared services center in Sabana Norte, San José, you'll join a dynamic, multicultural team committed to operational excellence, continuous learning, and professional growth. This permanent, full-time position offers stability, comprehensive benefits, and clear career progression opportunities within Roche's global treasury and finance organization.
Core Responsibilities
Daily Cash Management and Bank Posting
You will execute daily bank posting activities that ensure all banking transactions are accurately recorded in Roche's financial systems. Your daily cash management responsibilities include downloading and processing electronic bank statements from multiple banking partners, posting bank transactions to appropriate general ledger accounts using automated and manual processes, controlling automated bank interfaces to ensure data flows correctly between banking platforms and ERP systems, performing manual corrections when automated interfaces fail or require adjustment, and ensuring timely posting of all treasury transactions to meet reporting deadlines.
Your bank posting expertise requires understanding of bank statement formats and SWIFT messaging, cash application and allocation principles, automated cash posting configurations and exception handling, general ledger account structures for treasury transactions, and system workflows connecting banking platforms to SAP or other ERP systems.
Daily cash positioning represents a critical output of your work. You'll monitor cash balances across multiple bank accounts and currencies, identify excess cash positions for potential investment, flag cash shortfalls requiring funding, coordinate with country finance teams on cash needs, and provide accurate, timely cash position information to treasury management.
Managing multiple currencies and banking relationships requires meticulous attention to detail and systematic workflows. Bank suspense account management requires investigative skills and persistence. You'll analyze transactions posted to suspense accounts to determine proper classification, research unclear or incomplete transaction information using banking platforms and communications with banks, coordinate with country finance teams to clarify transaction purposes, post clearing entries to move items from suspense to proper accounts, and prevent suspense account build-up through proactive monitoring and timely clearing.
Your reconciliation work ensures financial statement accuracy by confirming bank account balances are correctly stated, identifying errors in cash recording or classification, detecting potential fraud or unauthorized transactions, supporting external audit requirements for bank confirmations and reconciliations, and providing assurance to management regarding cash and bank balance integrity.
Effective reconciliation practices you'll implement include performing reconciliations on established frequencies (daily, weekly, monthly depending on account activity and importance), following standardized reconciliation templates and procedures, maintaining detailed workpapers supporting reconciliation conclusions, escalating significant reconciling items or potential issues to management, and continuously improving reconciliation processes to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
You will conduct cash flow analysis and control activities that provide insights into cash movements and enable effective liquidity management. Your analytical capabilities enable you to identify unusual transactions or trends requiring investigation, explain variances between actual and expected cash flows, recognize opportunities for cash optimization or cost reduction, translate data into meaningful insights for decision-making, and present complex treasury information clearly to non-treasury audiences.
Operational Support and Communication
You will efficiently handle all incoming calls and emails in a timely manner, providing responsive, professional service to internal and external stakeholders. Your communication responsibilities include responding to inquiries from country finance teams about treasury transactions, balances, and processes, coordinating with banking partners on transaction issues, account maintenance, and service requests, collaborating with IT and system teams on interface issues or system enhancements, engaging with external auditors on treasury-related audit requests, and escalating complex issues appropriately to senior treasury staff or management.
Effective communication in a shared services environment requires understanding of customer service excellence principles, clear written communication across email and documentation, professional phone etiquette and verbal communication, ability to explain technical treasury concepts to non-specialists, patience and empathy when stakeholders are frustrated or confused, and proactive communication about issues, delays, or changes.
Your multilingual capabilities are essential for effective communication. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
You will proactively seek opportunities for effective cooperation between team members, regardless of country or functional assignments, fostering a collaborative culture within RSS Americas. Your collaboration includes sharing knowledge and best practices across the team, supporting colleagues during high-volume periods or absences, participating in team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions, mentoring newer team members as you gain experience, and contributing to positive team morale and engagement.
Continuous improvement represents a core responsibility and expectation. You'll continuously contribute to improving RSS performance by identifying inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or pain points in current treasury processes, proposing process enhancements that increase efficiency, reduce errors, or improve controls, recommending system improvements that leverage technology capabilities, implementing best practices observed from other organizations or benchmarks, participating in process improvement projects and working groups, and measuring and tracking benefits delivered by improvements implemented.
Your improvement mindset drives innovation through questioning "why do we do it this way?" constructively, piloting new approaches and documenting results, sharing lessons learned from both successes and failures, staying current with treasury technology and automation trends, and maintaining openness to change and different ways of working.
