The Opportunity: VP, Corporate Controller

We're seeking an exceptional Vice President, Corporate Controller to serve as G2's senior accounting and controllership executive. This critical leadership role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and holds responsibility for the integrity, scalability, and strategic alignment of all global accounting, financial reporting, treasury, procurement, and control functions.

As the company's principal accounting officer, you'll drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory standards, and partner across Finance, Legal, and Business Operations to enable data-driven decision-making and sustainable growth. This position requires a strategic thinker who can balance technical accounting expertise with visionary leadership to build scalable financial infrastructure supporting a complex, growing organization.

You'll oversee global accounting operations spanning from the United States to Bangalore, India—including corporate accounting, revenue recognition, technical accounting, tax, audit, internal controls, and shared services. Additionally, you'll serve as a key contributor to growth initiatives across G2's strategic plan, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and business integrations.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership and CFO Partnership

As the right hand to the CFO, you'll serve as the company's principal accounting officer and key advisor on all accounting, audit, and control matters. Your strategic partnership extends across the executive team, where your financial insights will influence critical business decisions. You'll work collaboratively with FP&A, Legal, and Business Operations teams to provide data-driven perspectives that shape organizational strategy.

Your leadership will drive long-range financial systems design, infrastructure improvements, and automation initiatives that increase accuracy, speed, and scalability across the accounting function. You'll champion the adoption and implementation of AI-driven ways of working to scale the team commensurately with broader company growth, ensuring the finance function remains at the forefront of technological innovation.

A crucial aspect of this role involves preparing the organization for major corporate events. You'll lead accounting readiness efforts for acquisitions, integrations, financing rounds, or potential IPO preparation, ensuring G2's financial infrastructure can support transformational growth milestones.

Financial Reporting and Regulatory Compliance

You'll maintain ultimate responsibility for the timely and accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This includes overseeing complex revenue recognition under ASC 606, ensuring technical accounting positions reflect best practices, and maintaining the highest standards of financial reporting quality.

Managing all aspects of external audits falls within your purview. You'll serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, Board committees, and regulatory bodies, ensuring seamless communication and compliance. Your expertise will ensure adherence to all internal and external reporting requirements, including tax, statutory, and regulatory filings across global jurisdictions.

Maintaining deep ownership of internal control frameworks represents a critical responsibility. You'll ensure SOX readiness where applicable, cultivating a strong culture of governance and accountability throughout the organization. Your leadership will embed control consciousness into daily operations, ensuring compliance becomes second nature rather than an afterthought.

Operational Excellence and Process Innovation

Driving continuous improvement of close processes and reporting cadence stands as a primary objective. You'll target world-class efficiency and accuracy, implementing best practices that position G2's accounting operations among industry leaders. Through rigorous evaluation and optimization of the company's ERP and financial systems, you'll enable real-time insight and operational agility.

You'll oversee accounting policy development, implementation, and consistent application across all entities, ensuring uniformity and compliance. Establishing and tracking key operational and financial metrics (KPIs) will measure and improve accounting performance, providing transparency into function effectiveness and opportunities for enhancement.

Your strategic vision will guide the evaluation of emerging technologies and methodologies that can transform accounting operations. You'll lead the charge in modernizing processes, automating routine tasks, and creating capacity for your team to focus on higher-value analytical and advisory work.

Team Leadership, Development, and Global Operations

Building, leading, and mentoring a diverse and high-performing accounting organization with global reach represents one of your most important responsibilities. You'll attract top talent, establish clear career paths, and create performance metrics that encourage professional growth, technical expertise, and accountability.

Your leadership style will foster collaboration, transparency, and a continuous improvement mindset across all levels of the finance function. You'll create an environment where team members feel empowered to innovate, challenge the status quo, and develop their capabilities. Managing global operations across multiple time zones requires cultural sensitivity and the ability to build cohesive teams despite geographic separation.

Succession planning and talent development will be ongoing priorities. You'll identify high-potential team members, create stretch opportunities, and ensure knowledge transfer to build organizational resilience and depth.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications

We're seeking candidates with exceptional credentials and proven track records. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required, along with an active CPA certification. An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is strongly preferred and will enhance your candidacy.

Your background should demonstrate at least 15 years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including a minimum of five years in a senior controller or equivalent role within a publicly traded or private equity-backed environment. This experience should showcase your ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and stakeholder relationships.

Deep technical expertise in U.S. GAAP is non-negotiable, with particular emphasis on revenue recognition (ASC 606) and financial controls. Your knowledge should extend beyond textbook understanding to practical application in complex, real-world scenarios.

Proven success building scalable accounting infrastructure, systems, and teams in high-growth software or technology environments is essential. We need someone who has lived through rapid organizational growth and knows how to build systems and teams that can flex and scale accordingly.

Experience managing external audits and complex global consolidations demonstrates your ability to handle the intricacies of multinational operations. You should be comfortable navigating multiple jurisdictions, currencies, and regulatory frameworks.

Strong leadership, communication, and executive presence are paramount. You must be capable of influencing cross-functional stakeholders and presenting confidently to board-level audiences. Your communication style should translate complex accounting concepts into accessible insights that drive business decisions.

ERP experience with platforms such as Intacct, NetSuite, Workday, or equivalent systems is required, along with a demonstrated track record of driving process automation and system optimization. You should view technology as an enabler of excellence rather than a constraint.

What Makes You Stand Out

While the required qualifications are substantial, certain experiences and qualities will differentiate exceptional candidates. Experience in SaaS or software marketplace environments provides valuable context for G2's business model and revenue complexities.

Prior involvement in M&A activities, including due diligence, integration, and post-merger accounting consolidation, positions you well for G2's growth strategy. Experience navigating IPO preparation or operating as a controller in a publicly traded company demonstrates your ability to operate at the highest standards of financial governance.

Demonstrated thought leadership in accounting innovation—whether through process redesign, technology implementation, or organizational transformation—shows you're not just maintaining the status quo but actively pushing boundaries.

Most importantly, a track record of building and retaining high-performing teams while maintaining work-life balance demonstrates leadership maturity. We value leaders who deliver results sustainably, developing talent while achieving operational excellence.
