About Anthropic
Anthropic is an AI safety and research company building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The team is a fast-growing group of researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together toward AI that is safe and beneficial for society.
The Role
Anthropic's Safe Change team builds the continuous-deployment and feature-flagging systems that let application code, infrastructure, and runtime configuration ship to production safely, many times a day. This platform is already widely adopted across the company, and its scope is expanding fast — bringing configuration changes onto the same safe path as code, adding new deployment surfaces, and building progressive rollouts. We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead this team and set the golden path for safe deployment that every engineering team at Anthropic will rely on.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead and grow a team of engineers building continuous-deployment, configuration, and feature-flagging platforms, owning planning, execution, and delivery.
- Technical Direction: Set the technical direction for safe deployment of code, infrastructure, and configuration across all of Anthropic's services.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with product, inference, security, and infrastructure teams to migrate services onto the paved path.
- Roadmap Ownership: Drive the roadmap for progressive rollouts, health-check automation, first-class configuration deployment, and new deployment surfaces.
- Metrics & Accountability: Define and track metrics for deployment safety and speed, holding the team accountable to them.
- Org Representation: Represent the team across the engineering organization and contribute to company-wide engineering initiatives.
- Experience managing and growing a team of software engineers, with a hands-on IC engineering background prior to management.
- Experience building or operating backend, distributed, or infrastructure systems in production.
- Working knowledge of modern deployment and cloud-native tooling — CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code.
- 5+ years of engineering management experience, ideally leading infrastructure, platform, or developer-experience teams (preferred).
- Experience with continuous delivery, release engineering, or deployment-safety systems; familiarity with canary or blue-green deployments (preferred).
- Background in observability, health checking, or incident response, with a track record of improving production reliability (preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
