The Maintenance Planner is responsible for comprehensive planning and coordination of preventive and corrective maintenance activities for rotating, static, and electrical equipment across Shell's operations. This role ensures optimal equipment reliability and plant availability through strategic planning, detailed work pack development, and cross-functional collaboration using SAP Plant Maintenance systems.

Key Accountabilities

Maintenance Planning & Work Pack Development

  • Plan and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules in the SAP PM Module for rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines) and static equipment (columns, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, safety valves)
  • Develop comprehensive work packs from technical documentation, including OEM manuals, P&IDs, circuit diagrams, maintenance reports, and equipment-specific task lists.
  • Create detailed electrical maintenance plans for switchgear, HV/LV transformers, and instrumentation systems in compliance with Shell Standards
  • Build library work packs with task descriptions, spare parts lists, time estimates, cost projections, and quality checkpoints.

Work Order Management & Coordination

  • Assess and prioritise work orders, conduct initial troubleshooting, and propose technical solutions.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance teams, contractors, and supply chain to ensure resource availability.
  • Identify material and service requirements, raise purchase requisitions, and process invoices.s
  • Review work order completeness and schedule feasibility before execution
  • Support remote assets with maintenance planning and documentation

Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct job hazard assessments and risk evaluations for all maintenance activities.
  • Develop Permits to Work and ensure safety precautions are integrated into work plans.
  • Initiate Management of Change (MOC) processes when required
  • Ensure compliance with Shell standards, statutory requirements, and safety management systems

Turnaround & Shutdown Planning

  • Plan complex multi-disciplinary scopes for major turnarounds and shutdowns
  • Utilise scheduling tools like Primavera for work clustering and timeliness optimisation on
  • Estimate manpower, materials, and Heavy Outage Task Teams (HOTT) requirements
  • Coordinate scaffolding, insulation packages, and specialised equipment needs

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with maintenance leads, OEMs, and vendors to refine work packs
  • Customise generic work packs to site-specific conditions and parameters
  • Maintain damage history records and analyse failure modes from anomaly reports
  • Implement standardised work processes and contribute to efficiency improvements

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Instrumentation Engineering

Experience

  • 3-10 years of hands-on experience in field operations and maintenance within Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemicals, or equivalent industries
  • Proven experience in maintenance planning for rotating and static equipment
  • Background in installation, commissioning, operations, or design engineering
  • Experience with major turnarounds, shutdowns, or capital project execution

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in the SAP/GSAP Plant Maintenance module
  • Working knowledge of w-IMS, AIM, and the MS Office suite
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, PFDs, circuit diagrams)
  • Understanding of RCM (Reliability-Centred Maintenance) principles
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Primavera P6
