Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Senior Manager, Technical Revenue Accounting to lead our revenue recognition strategy and ensure compliance with ASC 606. This role serves as the technical expert and strategic partner across the organization, bridging complex accounting requirements with business objectives while maintaining audit readiness and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Policy Management
- Lead technical accounting assessments for complex customer contracts, including multi-element arrangements, SaaS models, usage-based pricing, variable consideration, and partnership agreements
- Develop and maintain comprehensive global revenue accounting policies, technical memos, and position papers in accordance with ASC 606
- Own the Stand-Alone Selling Price (SSP) determination process, including periodic updates, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and compliant documentation
Team Development & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Manage and mentor a high-performing technical accounting team
- Partner with Sales, Legal, Product, and Pricing teams to align commercial strategies with revenue recognition requirements
- Provide education and guidance on revenue accounting principles, policies, processes, and controls across the organization
Compliance & Controls
- Serve as primary liaison with SEC/Technical Accounting, Internal Audit, and external audit teams
- Maintain SOX control environment for contract review and non-operational revenue accounting processes
- Oversee monthly close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, audit deliverables, and SEC reporting disclosures
Systems & Process Optimization
- Collaborate with operational revenue accounting on ERP system implementation for contract processing and revenue recognition
- Partner with IT and business teams to design and enhance revenue automation tools for scalability and accuracy
- Lead technical assessments for new product launches, pricing model changes, and go-to-market initiatives
Strategic Initiatives
- Drive special projects and company-wide initiatives leveraging technical expertise
- Proactively identify risks, drive efficiency improvements, and elevate organizational expertise
- Apply strategic thinking to complex issues, delivering pragmatic and scalable solutions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 8+ years of progressive technical accounting experience in both public accounting and fast-paced corporate environments
- 6+ years of people management experience
- Expert knowledge of ASC 606 and US GAAP, particularly for SaaS and usage-based revenue models
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing internal controls
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with skill in applying accounting standards to complex scenarios
- Demonstrated success building relationships and influencing at all organizational levels
- Strategic mindset with curiosity, initiative, and ability to drive pragmatic outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent certification
- 5+ years of Big 4 public accounting experience
- Background in technical revenue accounting at high-growth technology or publicly traded companies
- Experience with Oracle RMCS and Zuora Revenue
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $118,200 - $147,700 CAD (British Columbia)
Final compensation determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location
