Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Life Science Account Manager (d/f/m) to own, manage, and strategically grow our microscopy business throughout the Berlin area. This is a dynamic role that combines strategic account planning with hands-on customer engagement, offering the flexibility of remote work while maintaining close connections with the customers and communities you serve.
As the primary steward of our business in your designated territory, you will be responsible for nurturing and expanding existing customer relationships while proactively identifying and winning new business opportunities. Your success will depend on your ability to develop and execute sophisticated geographic key account planning strategies, create detailed account mapping, and build extensive professional networks within the life sciences research community.
This position reports to the responsible sales manager and integrates you into our high-performing Central Europe Sales Team. While fully remote, this role requires a proactive, customer-centric approach with an expectation to be on-site with customers approximately three days per week, ensuring you maintain the face-to-face relationships that are crucial to success in scientific sales.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Ownership and Growth
You will serve as the primary decision-maker for how we serve customers within your defined geographic account area. This involves developing comprehensive strategies to achieve and exceed growth targets through a combination of account penetration, expansion, and new customer acquisition. Your strategic mindset will enable you to define mid-term objectives while maintaining the operational excellence required to execute them effectively.
Customer Relationship Management and Solution Selling
Working directly with research institutions, universities, and life science organizations, you will invest time in understanding their unique research needs and challenges. By taking a consultative approach, you will identify opportunities where our microscopy solutions can benefit their research objectives, ultimately increasing customer satisfaction, strengthening retention, and driving sustained business growth.
Your ability to truly understand customer workflows, research goals, and technical requirements will differentiate you as a trusted advisor rather than simply a vendor, creating long-term partnerships built on mutual success.
Team Coordination and Resource Deployment
A critical aspect of your role involves serving as the orchestrator of our comprehensive support ecosystem. You will deploy, coordinate, and strategically leverage our talented team of Key Account Managers, Advanced Workflow Specialists, Product Sales Specialists, Marketing colleagues, and Channel Partners to ensure customers engage with the right experts at precisely the right times.
This coordination enhances team collaboration and ensures that customers receive exceptional service and support throughout their journey with Leica Microsystems, from initial consultation through implementation and ongoing optimization.
Sales Funnel Management and Forecasting
You will proactively manage opportunities throughout the sales funnel, maintaining a disciplined approach to pipeline development and opportunity progression. Regular analysis and accurate forecasting are essential, as your insights will inform business planning and resource allocation decisions at the regional and company levels.
Weekly reporting on the sales funnel and other key performance metrics will keep stakeholders informed and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Strategic Planning and Business Development
Your contributions will directly shape the direction of our growth initiatives in the region, contributing to long-term success and market leadership. Through advanced geographic key account planning, competitive analysis, and market intelligence gathering, you will identify emerging opportunities and develop strategies to capitalize on them.
You will also learn and utilize the renowned Danaher Business System to systematically address challenges, optimize processes, and uncover new opportunities for growth and improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Background
A degree in Life Sciences is required for this position. This educational foundation provides the technical understanding necessary to engage credibly with researchers, understand their experimental challenges, and position our solutions effectively within the context of their scientific objectives.
Professional Experience and Expertise
We seek candidates with strong and proven sales experience in a relevant industry. Previous exposure to microscopy, spatial biology, and proteomics is strongly preferred, as this domain knowledge will accelerate your ability to add value in customer conversations and understand the nuanced applications of our technology portfolio.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on, operational sales capabilities with a strategic and structured mindset. You should be equally comfortable developing comprehensive territory strategies and executing tactical sales activities in the field. Your track record should demonstrate your ability to define mid-term strategic objectives for business growth while taking an active, disciplined role in executing those plans.
Core Competencies
Exceptional communication skills are essential, as you will engage with scientific researchers, institutional decision-makers, and internal stakeholders across the organization. Sound business acumen enables you to understand customer budgeting cycles, procurement processes, and organizational dynamics that influence purchasing decisions.
Above all, you must be genuinely driven to exceed targets and reach ambitious goals. Your motivation should come from both the satisfaction of winning business and the knowledge that your work enables scientific breakthroughs that benefit society.
Work Arrangements and Requirements
Travel and Flexibility
This role requires approximately 40% travel, including overnight stays within your designated territory. The expectation is to be on-site with customers approximately three days per week, balancing remote work flexibility with the face-to-face engagement that builds lasting relationships.
A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required, as you will travel regularly throughout the Berlin area to meet with customers and attend industry events.
Remote Work Arrangement
At Leica Microsystems, we believe in designing a better, more sustainable workforce that recognizes the benefits of flexible working arrangements. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from your home while maintaining strong connections with customers and colleagues. Additional details about this remote work arrangement will be provided by your interview team during the selection process.
