About the Role
We're looking for an exceptional Backend Software Developer who thrives on building robust, scalable systems that power real financial transactions. This isn't about building yet another CRUD application. You'll be architecting and implementing the core engine behind India's most sophisticated retail bond investing platform.
At BondScanner, backend engineering is mission-critical. Every system you build needs to handle real money, comply with stringent regulatory requirements, integrate with complex financial infrastructure, and deliver a seamless experience to users who trust us with their investments. You'll work on challenging problems involving order routing, price discovery, risk calculation, settlement workflows, and real-time market data.
This role is perfect for engineers who love solving complex technical problems, care deeply about code quality and system design, and want to see their work directly impact how millions of Indians invest and build wealth.

What You'll Be Doing
Core Backend Development
You'll design, build, and maintain the scalable, secure backend services that power our bond investing platform. This includes developing RESTful APIs that serve our web and mobile applications, building internal microservices that handle complex business logic, and architecting data pipelines that process market data, user transactions, and portfolio analytics. Every line of code you write will need to meet the highest standards for reliability, security, and performance because we're handling real financial transactions and user trust.
Financial Systems Integration
You'll work extensively with external financial infrastructure. This means integrating with KYC and e-KYC providers for user verification, connecting with payment gateways and UPI systems for seamless fund transfers, building interfaces with broker APIs for order placement and execution, integrating with depositories for holdings management, and working with regulatory reporting systems. You'll become deeply familiar with India's financial technology ecosystem and the intricate workflows that make digital investing possible.
Product Feature Development
You'll collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and designers to deliver complete features end-to-end. Whether it's building a new portfolio tracking system, implementing advanced bond filters and search, creating automated investment workflows, or developing notification and alert systems, you'll own features from planning through production deployment. You'll participate in product discussions, contribute to technical decisions, and ensure every feature ships with quality and polish.
System Architecture & Scalability
As we grow, you'll help architect systems that scale gracefully. This means designing database schemas that perform well under load, implementing caching strategies to reduce latency, building asynchronous job processing systems for heavy computations, designing fault-tolerant services that handle failures gracefully, and establishing monitoring and alerting to catch issues before users do. You'll think beyond the immediate requirement and build with scale in mind.
Security & Compliance
In a SEBI-regulated environment, security and compliance are non-negotiable. You'll implement authentication and authorization systems that protect user data, build audit trails for all financial transactions, ensure data encryption at rest and in transit, design systems that meet regulatory reporting requirements, and work with security best practices including OWASP guidelines. Every system you build will need to pass security review and meet compliance standards.
Code Quality & Best Practices
You'll write clean, maintainable, well-tested code that your teammates can understand and build upon. This means writing comprehensive unit and integration tests, creating clear API documentation, conducting thorough code reviews, implementing proper logging and observability, and continuously refactoring to improve code quality. You'll help establish and maintain the engineering standards that will define how we build software as we scale.
What We Look For in You
Technical Foundations
You bring 2–4 years of hands-on backend development experience in a product-driven or fintech environment. You've built production systems that serve real users, handled scaling challenges, and debugged complex issues in live environments. You understand what it takes to build software that works reliably day after day.
You have a strong command over at least one backend language. Whether it's Node.js, Go, Java, Python, or another modern backend language, you're proficient and productive. You understand the strengths and weaknesses of your chosen stack, you write idiomatic code, and you can pick up new languages and frameworks when needed.
You have solid expertise in API architecture. You understand RESTful design principles, you've built and consumed APIs at scale, you know how to design clean endpoints that are intuitive to use, and you understand authentication mechanisms like OAuth 2.0, JWT, and session management. You can design APIs that are secure, performant, and a pleasure to work with.
You have hands-on experience with databases. You're comfortable with SQL databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL, you understand indexing, query optimization, and transaction management. You've also worked with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Redis, or DynamoDB, and you know when to use each type of database. You can design efficient data models that support complex queries while maintaining performance.
You have experience with cloud platforms. Whether it's AWS, GCP, or Azure, you've deployed and operated services in the cloud. You understand concepts like containers, orchestration, serverless functions, managed databases, and cloud networking. You can leverage cloud services to build scalable, cost-effective systems.
Problem-Solving & System Design
You're a strong problem solver who can break down complex requirements into elegant technical solutions. You understand distributed systems concepts, you can reason about trade-offs between consistency and availability, and you know how to design systems that are resilient to failures. You think about edge cases, you consider failure modes, and you build defensively.
You understand performance optimization. You know how to profile applications, identify bottlenecks, optimize database queries, implement caching strategies, and reduce latency. You understand the performance characteristics of different data structures and algorithms, and you apply this knowledge when building systems.
Collaboration & Communication
You're a team player who communicates clearly and works well with others. You can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, you actively participate in design discussions, you give and receive code review feedback constructively, and you're willing to help teammates when they're stuck. You understand that great software is built by great teams.
Bonus Experience
Experience in fintech, financial services, or trading systems is highly valuable. If you've worked on payment systems, investment platforms, lending products, trading engines, or risk calculation systems, you'll understand the unique challenges of building financial software and the regulatory constraints we operate within.
Experience with high-compliance domains such as healthcare tech, legal tech, or government systems means you're already familiar with building software that meets strict regulatory requirements, maintains comprehensive audit trails, and prioritizes security above all else.
