Renewable Energy Leadership: In 2022, Shell made a landmark $1.55 billion acquisition of Sprng Energy, establishing ourselves as a major player in India's renewable energy sector. Sprng is a leading renewable energy company developing and managing solar, wind, and hybrid power generation facilities, accelerating our integrated energy transition business in the country.

The Role: Specialist - Credit Data Analytics

Overview and Strategic Context

The Credit Data & Analytics team within Shell Business Operations (SBO) India holds critical responsibility for global Shell Trading & Supply credit risk analytics and reporting. This specialized team serves as the analytical backbone supporting credit risk management decisions that affect billions of dollars in global energy trading activities across Shell's worldwide operations.

Shell Trading & Supply represents one of the world's largest and most sophisticated energy trading operations, managing complex portfolios across crude oil, refined products, natural gas, LNG, power, and renewable energy markets. The credit risk associated with these trading activities—spanning hundreds of counterparties across dozens of countries—requires sophisticated analytical capabilities, robust monitoring systems, and insightful reporting to protect Shell's financial position while enabling profitable trading opportunities.

As a Specialist in Credit Data Analytics, you'll join a dynamic, globally integrated team working at the intersection of finance, technology, and risk management. This role offers exceptional variety—you won't be confined to a single repetitive task. Instead, you can expect responsibility for a diverse mix of activities spanning daily risk monitoring, platform management, data analytics, stakeholder coordination, and strategic reporting to senior management.

What Makes This Role Unique

This position represents an outstanding opportunity for early-career professionals or recent graduates to enter the global energy sector through a role that combines technical skills with business impact. You'll gain exposure to sophisticated risk management frameworks, work with cutting-edge analytics platforms, and develop expertise that's highly valued across financial services and energy industries.

The ideal candidate is a strong self-starter who thrives under pressure and can leverage their analytical abilities to enhance market and credit risk management. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where your analysis directly influences trading decisions, your insights shape risk reporting to executive leadership, and your problem-solving abilities keep critical systems running smoothly.

What You Will Be Doing

Daily Risk Reporting and Monitoring

Risk Reporting Excellence: Perform a comprehensive variety of daily risk reporting activities that provide Shell's trading teams and senior management with critical visibility into credit exposures, concentration risks, utilization metrics, and potential vulnerabilities. Your reports will inform decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.

Platform Monitoring: Monitor the Market and Credit Risk Platform daily processes that run across Shell Trading & Supply businesses globally. These automated processes generate risk metrics, update exposures, calculate credit limits, and produce alerts that require vigilant oversight to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Exception Management: Review and resolve errors, alerts, and exceptions that arise from daily processing activities. This requires coordination with stakeholders across different time zones and IT teams to diagnose issues, implement solutions, and ensure data integrity. Your troubleshooting abilities and persistence will be essential.

Global Coordination and Data Integrity

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Play a crucial coordination role among team members distributed across the globe—connecting colleagues in Europe, Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. You'll address and correct data integrity issues in a timely manner, ensuring that risk information flowing through Shell's systems remains accurate, complete, and reliable.

Data Quality Stewardship: Serve as a guardian of data quality, identifying discrepancies, investigating root causes, and implementing corrections that maintain the integrity of Shell's credit risk information. Your attention to detail will prevent errors from propagating through downstream reporting and analytics.

Platform Configuration and Maintenance

System Configuration: Maintain and update various configurations for the Credit Risk Platform in close coordination with external stakeholders including counterparty credit analysts, trading desks, and middle office teams. Configuration changes might include updating credit limits, modifying calculation parameters, adding new counterparties, or adjusting risk methodologies.

Change Management: Ensure all configuration changes are properly documented, tested, and implemented according to change management protocols that protect system stability while enabling necessary updates.

Risk Analysis and Validation

Movement Analysis: Validate daily movements in risk metrics, investigating significant changes to understand underlying drivers. When exposures increase dramatically or credit utilization patterns shift, you'll dig into the transactions, market movements, and portfolio changes that explain these variations.

Executive Reporting: Report key drivers and metrics to Trading & Supply senior management through concise, insightful commentary that highlights what's important, explains why it matters, and identifies any actions required. Your ability to distill complex information into clear insights will be highly valued.

Advanced Analytics and Ad Hoc Analysis

Simulation and Scenario Analysis: Provide ad hoc analysis by running "what-if" simulations and queries using SQL and Oracle Databases. Trading teams and credit managers frequently need quick analysis of hypothetical scenarios—"What if we increase exposure to this counterparty?" "How would this market movement affect our portfolio?" Your technical skills enable these critical analyses.

Database Querying: Extract, manipulate, and analyze data from complex relational databases using SQL queries. You'll write queries that join multiple tables, aggregate data across dimensions, and filter results to answer specific business questions.

Business Intelligence and Visualization

BI Reporting Support: Monitor and support daily production of Business Intelligence reporting using tools like PowerBI. Ensure dashboards refresh correctly, visualizations display accurate data, and reports reach stakeholders on schedule.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance BI reporting through improved visualizations, additional metrics, automated alerts, or more intuitive presentation of complex information.

Compliance and Control Excellence

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities are carried out with safety awareness and performed in full compliance with external regulations, the Shell Control Framework, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, Financial Reporting standards, and Shell Trading mandate and policies.

Control Framework Adherence: Maintain rigorous adherence to controls designed to protect Shell's financial integrity, prevent errors, ensure auditability, and meet regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
