At the heart of Shell's operations lies our global strategy: Powering Progress. This ambitious strategy is meticulously designed to generate substantial value for our shareholders, customers, and wider society, while fundamentally focusing on creating more value with fewer emissions. We're not just talking about change—we're actively driving it, investing billions in renewable energy, developing breakthrough technologies, and reimagining how energy powers modern life.

This isn't merely an environmental goal—it represents our commitment to ensuring energy security and sustainability for future generations while maintaining the reliable energy supply that powers economic growth and improves lives worldwide.
Shell's Trading & Supply business represents one of the world's largest and most sophisticated energy trading operations, managing vast portfolios across crude oil, refined products, natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), power, carbon credits, and renewable energy. Our traders operate 24/7 across global time zones, executing thousands of transactions daily, managing billions of dollars in market exposure, and ensuring energy flows efficiently from producers to consumers worldwide.

The Role: Specialist - Market Risk Pricing (PIM+EOD)
Strategic Context and Importance
The Specialist – Market Risk Pricing position represents a critical role within Shell's Price Risk Operations Team, serving the global Shell Trading & Supply organization based in our Bangalore capability center. This position sits at the intersection of trading operations, risk management, technology systems, and data integrity—areas that are absolutely fundamental to Shell's ability to trade energy commodities safely, profitably, and within approved risk limits.
In energy trading, accurate and timely pricing is not merely important—it's mission-critical. Every position in Shell's trading portfolio must be valued correctly using appropriate market prices to calculate exposures, measure risk, evaluate profitability, and ensure compliance with risk limits. The systems you'll support—Shell's Energy Trade and Risk Management (ETRM) platforms DEX and ENDUR—serve as the technological backbone of trading operations, processing thousands of transactions daily and generating the risk metrics that inform trading decisions at the highest levels.
Why This Role Matters
This position offers exceptional opportunity for early-career professionals to enter the sophisticated world of energy trading through a role that combines technical expertise, operational discipline, and business impact. You'll work with cutting-edge trading systems, gain deep understanding of global energy markets, and develop highly marketable skills in risk management, market data management, and trading technology.
As a key contributor to the Price Risk Operations Team, you'll perform time-critical price load activities that directly enable trading operations, act as the subject matter expert (SME) for market data questions from stakeholders across Shell's global trading network, and lead projects that drive continuous improvements within the market data team. Your work ensures that traders can rely on accurate valuations, risk managers can trust their exposure reports, and leadership can make informed decisions based on reliable data.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments, possesses strong analytical and technical capabilities, demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, and embraces the responsibility of supporting 24/7 global trading operations. This role requires flexibility in shift patterns, including night shifts, to provide coverage aligned with global market hours and trading activities across time zones.
What You'll Be Doing: Core Responsibilities
Time-Critical Price Load Operations
Daily Price Loading: Execute time-critical price load activities for Shell's Energy Trade and Risk Management Systems (DEX and ENDUR). This involves systematically loading market prices from multiple external sources—including exchanges, brokers, price reporting agencies, and market data vendors—into trading systems according to strict deadlines that align with market close times and risk reporting requirements.
Price Validation: Perform rigorous validation of loaded prices to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness. Identify outliers, investigate discrepancies, validate curve shapes, and verify that prices align with market movements. Your validation protects Shell from valuation errors that could misrepresent risk exposures or profitability.
System Monitoring: Monitor automated price feed processes, identifying and resolving failures, exceptions, and data quality issues that could disrupt trading operations or compromise valuation accuracy. Your vigilance ensures continuous data flow supporting 24/7 trading activities.
Market Data Subject Matter Expertise
Focal Point for Pricing Issues: Serve as the primary focal point for all pricing issues affecting Shell's trading systems. When traders, risk managers, finance teams, or IT specialists encounter pricing questions or problems, you're the go-to expert who investigates, explains, and resolves these issues with authority and confidence.
Stakeholder Support: Provide expert support for business users across both STN (Shell Trading Network) entities and non-STN companies globally. This includes answering questions about price sources, explaining valuation methodologies, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring stakeholders understand how prices are determined and applied.
Data Integrity Guardian: Ensure the integrity of market data throughout Shell's trading systems. Investigate inconsistencies, identify root causes of data quality issues, implement corrections, and establish controls that prevent recurrence. Your dedication to data integrity protects Shell's financial position and regulatory compliance.
System Change and Improvement Projects
Project Leadership: Lead and support large-scale system change projects affecting market data and pricing functionality. These projects might include implementing new pricing curves, onboarding new commodities or markets, enhancing automation, migrating to new data sources, or upgrading ETRM system capabilities.
Subject Matter Expert Role: Act as the pricing and market data SME within project teams, providing technical expertise, business requirements definition, testing leadership, and user training. Your deep knowledge of both the business needs and technical systems makes you invaluable to successful project delivery.
Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to enhance price risk operations through improved processes, increased automation, better data quality controls, or enhanced reporting. Drive initiatives that increase efficiency, reduce errors, and strengthen risk management capabilities.
Key Performance Indicator Development
KPI Framework Design: Develop and implement effective Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Price Risk activities. These metrics should provide meaningful insights into operational performance, data quality, timeliness, exception rates, and other factors critical to excellence in price risk management.
Performance Monitoring: Track KPIs systematically, analyze trends, identify areas requiring attention, and report performance to management. Use data-driven insights to prioritize improvement efforts and demonstrate the value delivered by the Price Risk Operations Team.
Benchmarking and Standards: Establish performance standards and benchmarks that drive operational excellence while remaining achievable and aligned with business needs.
Daily Risk Monitoring and Management
Exposure Monitoring: Take responsibility for monitoring and managing Trading & Supply's market risk exposures daily. Review position reports, validate risk metrics, investigate significant movements, and ensure exposures remain within approved risk limits established by senior management and risk committees.
Risk Metric Calculation: Support the calculation and validation of various risk metrics including Value at Risk (VaR), Greeks (Delta, Gamma, Vega), stress test results, concentration measures, and other quantitative risk indicators that inform trading decisions and risk management strategies.
Alert Management: Monitor system-generated alerts related to risk limits, unusual positions, or data anomalies. Investigate alerts promptly, coordinate with traders and risk managers, and escalate issues appropriately according to established protocols.
Virtual Daily Close Process
End-of-Day Operations: Execute controlled processes to complete a virtual close of Trading & Supply books every day. This involves finalizing positions, confirming all trades are captured, validating valuations, reconciling discrepancies, and producing end-of-day risk reports that provide leadership with accurate snapshots of trading positions and exposures.
Operational Integrity: Maintain the operational integrity of Market Risk processes and controls through rigorous adherence to procedures, comprehensive documentation, and systematic validation of outputs. Your discipline ensures consistency, auditability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Process Optimization: Continuously identify fit-for-purpose processes that balance control requirements with operational efficiency. Recommend and implement improvements that reduce manual effort, accelerate timelines, or enhance accuracy without compromising control effectiveness.
Valuation Input Management: Maintain observable market inputs used for valuation calculations, ensuring prices reflect current market conditions, curves are properly constructed, and valuation methodologies align with accounting standards and Shell's financial reporting requirements.
