Position Overview

The Quality Manager represents a transformational leadership opportunity to build Walker Tape®'s Quality and Safety Management Systems from the ground up. This is not a position for maintaining existing programs—this is your chance to architect, implement, and lead comprehensive quality and safety systems that will define our operational excellence for years to come.

This role encompasses the full spectrum of quality management: developing our ISO 9001 quality management system toward certification, establishing robust safety compliance programs, managing product quality processes, and cultivating a workplace culture where quality ownership and safety awareness are fundamental to how we operate every single day.

We're seeking a hands-on, high-energy professional who thrives on building systems, driving change, and creating lasting impact. The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative without being asked, leads by example rather than from behind a desk, and generates momentum that inspires others to elevate their own standards. You're a self-driven problem solver who sees challenges as opportunities and who understands that sustainable quality and safety excellence requires both strong systems and engaged people.

While this is structured as an individual contributor position, make no mistake—this role carries significant cross-functional influence and high visibility throughout the organization. You'll work directly with leadership teams, engage daily with frontline operators, collaborate across all departments, and serve as the authoritative voice on quality and safety matters. Your recommendations will shape policies, your insights will drive investments, and your systems will become the backbone of our operational framework.

This position demands someone who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, who can design sophisticated management systems while also rolling up their sleeves to investigate root causes on the production floor, and who can inspire cultural change while maintaining unwavering attention to detail and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management System Development and ISO 9001 Certification

System Architecture: Design, develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive quality management system aligned with ISO 9001 standards. This includes creating documentation hierarchies, defining processes and procedures, establishing quality objectives, and building the infrastructure necessary for certification. Your target is achieving ISO 9001 certification within 12-24 months of hire.

Audit Leadership: Prepare for, coordinate, and lead external certification audits with registrars, while also maintaining ongoing audit readiness through internal audit programs. Develop audit protocols, train internal auditors, manage corrective actions from audit findings, and ensure continuous compliance with all ISO 9001 requirements.

Documentation and Compliance: Ensure all quality documentation, procedures, work instructions, and records meet both internal standards and external compliance requirements. Create document control systems, manage revisions, and establish processes that keep documentation current and accessible.

Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) Management

Root Cause Investigation: Lead thorough investigations into quality issues, non-conformances, and process failures using structured methodologies such as 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Your investigations must identify true root causes, not just symptoms.

Corrective Action Development: Design and implement effective corrective and preventive action plans that address root causes, prevent recurrence, and drive continuous improvement. Coordinate actions across departments and ensure timely completion.

Effectiveness Verification: Establish robust verification processes to confirm that corrective actions have achieved desired results and that improvements are sustained over time. Track long-term trends to identify systemic issues requiring strategic intervention.

Supplier Quality Management

Supplier Performance Systems: Develop and implement comprehensive supplier quality programs including supplier qualification processes, performance scorecards, and continuous monitoring systems that ensure incoming materials meet specifications.

Supplier Audits: Plan, conduct, and manage supplier audits to assess capabilities, verify compliance with quality requirements, and identify improvement opportunities. Build collaborative relationships with suppliers that drive mutual improvement.

Material Quality Assurance: Establish incoming inspection processes, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria that protect our production processes from defective materials while maintaining efficient material flow.

Customer Complaint Management and Quality Response

Complaint Investigation: Take ownership of customer complaints related to product quality, conducting thorough investigations that identify root causes and contributing factors. Coordinate with sales, customer service, production, and other teams to gather complete information.

Corrective Communication: Develop professional, timely responses to customers that explain findings, outline corrective actions, and demonstrate our commitment to quality. Balance transparency with appropriate confidentiality and position complaints as opportunities for improvement.

Trend Analysis: Analyze complaint patterns to identify recurring issues, emerging risks, and opportunities for proactive prevention. Use customer feedback to drive product improvements and process refinements.

Safety Compliance and OSHA Programs

Safety System Development: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety compliance programs that meet or exceed OSHA standards. This includes hazard assessments, safety procedures, personal protective equipment programs, lockout/tagout procedures, and emergency response plans.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations, maintaining current knowledge of regulatory changes and proactively adapting programs to meet evolving requirements.

Incident Management: Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and track metrics to drive continuous safety improvement. Maintain required OSHA documentation and reporting.

Training and Culture Development

Comprehensive Training Programs: Design and deliver engaging training programs for quality and safety across all departments—production operators, warehouse teams, shipping personnel, maintenance technicians, and office staff. Create role-specific training that builds competence and confidence.

Culture Transformation: Promote and nurture a culture of quality ownership where every employee understands their role in delivering excellent products, and a culture of safety awareness where everyone looks out for themselves and their teammates. Lead by example and inspire others to embrace these values.

Continuous Improvement Mindset: Foster an environment where identifying problems is celebrated, improvement suggestions are encouraged, and everyone participates in making our operations better every day.

Metrics, Reporting, and Data-Driven Decision Making

KPI Development: Define, implement, and track key quality and safety metrics that provide meaningful insights into performance, trends, and areas requiring attention. Examples include defect rates, customer complaint frequency, CAPA closure rates, safety incident rates, and audit findings.

Data Analysis and Reporting: Use statistical methods and data analysis tools to identify trends, patterns, and correlations. Prepare regular reports for leadership that communicate performance, highlight achievements, and recommend actions.

Action-Oriented Insights: Transform data into actionable recommendations that drive improvements, prevent problems, and optimize processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Integration

Departmental Partnership: Work closely with Production, Warehouse, Shipping, Maintenance, Product Development, Procurement, and other departments to integrate quality and safety requirements seamlessly into daily operations. Serve as a trusted advisor and partner.

Process Integration: Ensure quality and safety considerations are built into processes from the beginning rather than added as afterthoughts. Participate in new product development, process changes, and facility modifications to provide quality and safety expertise.

Influence and Leadership: Exercise cross-functional influence to drive alignment with quality and safety objectives, even without direct authority over all stakeholders. Build credibility through expertise, results, and collaborative approach.
