THE OPPORTUNITY: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT ROLE

Circle's Finance team is seeking an accomplished Senior Accountant to join our rapidly expanding organization. As we aggressively scale toward surpassing $100 million in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), we require a meticulous, detail-oriented accounting professional who will fortify our financial operations infrastructure and ensure the delivery of accurate, punctual financial reporting that drives strategic business decisions.

This hands-on accounting position reports directly to the Controller and places you at the center of Circle's financial operations. You'll assume comprehensive responsibility for orchestrating the monthly financial close process, supervising daily accounts payable operations with precision, and providing critical support for accounts receivable functions. Your contributions will be fundamental to preserving the integrity of our financial records while delivering management teams with dependable monthly financial statements that inform critical business strategies.

COMPENSATION: $110,000 - $120,000 USD annually + Equity + Comprehensive Benefits

The cash compensation range shown is a starting point. In addition to equity, benefits and perks, your cash compensation is subject to an annual review and increase on a once per year basis.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Monthly Close & Financial Reporting

  • Own the complete month-end close process, encompassing journal entry preparation, comprehensive account reconciliations, and detailed variance analysis to ensure financial accuracy and identify trends
  • Prepare sophisticated monthly financial reports and comprehensive management reporting packages that provide actionable insights to leadership teams
  • Maintain meticulous supporting schedules and documentation for all balance sheet accounts, ensuring audit readiness and regulatory compliance at all times
  • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful commentary on variances, trends, and key performance indicators

Accounts Payable Management

  • Manage daily AP operations with precision, including invoice processing workflows, vendor payment execution, expense report reviews, and vendor account reconciliations
  • Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships while ensuring timely, accurate payment processing that supports operational efficiency
  • Implement process improvements that streamline accounts payable workflows and enhance operational efficiency
  • Ensure proper coding and allocation of expenses across departments and cost centers

Accounts Receivable Support

  • Support accounts receivable functions to ensure accurate revenue recognition and timely collection of customer payments
  • Collaborate with Revenue Operations team to maintain accurate customer billing and payment records
  • Assist with revenue reconciliations and analysis to support subscription-based revenue models

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate annual financial audits comprehensively, including managing Prepared By Client (PBC) requests, developing audit workpaper documentation, and serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors
  • Support tax compliance activities extensively, including preparing documentation for sales tax obligations, VAT/GST requirements, and income tax filings across multiple international jurisdictions
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards and internal company policies
  • Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures documentation to support operational excellence

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner effectively with Revenue Operations, Procurement, and other business units to ensure accurate financial recording and reporting of business transactions
  • Translate complex accounting concepts into clear, accessible language for non-finance stakeholders across the organization
  • Contribute to special projects and initiatives that support Circle's financial infrastructure as the business scales
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on accounting processes and best practices

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Language Proficiency

You are proficient in English (spoken, written, and reading) at a CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5, demonstrating native or near-native fluency in all aspects of professional communication.

Professional Experience

  • 5+ years of comprehensive full-cycle accounting experience with demonstrated ownership of month-end close processes from start to finish
  • Prior experience in SaaS or high-growth subscription-based businesses, understanding the unique accounting challenges and opportunities these models present
  • Proven track record of managing multiple priorities simultaneously while consistently meeting tight close deadlines with unwavering accuracy
  • Experience working in fast-paced, scaling organizations where adaptability and continuous improvement are essential

Technical Accounting Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including revenue recognition standards, balance sheet reconciliation methodologies, and accrual accounting practices
  • Strong understanding of SaaS revenue recognition principles and subscription-based business models
  • Advanced Excel proficiency with comfort building complex nested formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, INDEX-MATCH functions, and comprehensive reporting templates from scratch
  • Experience with modern accounting technology stack including QuickBooks Online (QBO), Ramp expense management, Stripe subscription management and payment processing, or comparable platforms
  • Ability to learn new accounting software and systems quickly

While not required, the following qualifications will strengthen your application and demonstrate advanced professional commitment:

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation or actively pursuing CPA certification through ongoing exam preparation and study
  • Specialized knowledge of international tax compliance, particularly sales tax, VAT (Value Added Tax), or GST (Goods and Services Tax) requirements for digital services across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience implementing or optimizing accounting systems in scaling organizations, including system migrations or integrations
  • Background in supporting strategic finance initiatives beyond traditional accounting functions, such as FP&A support, KPI development, or business intelligence
  • Prior experience in a Controller or Assistant Controller role with team management responsibilities
  • Familiarity with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or other enterprise-level accounting platforms
  • Experience with revenue recognition standards ASC 606 and its application in SaaS environments

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE

Within your first 30 days, you will have completed comprehensive onboarding, gained thorough understanding of Circle's financial systems and processes, established relationships with key cross-functional partners, and begun participating in the monthly close process under guidance.

Within your first 90 days, you will have taken ownership of key components of the monthly close process, implemented at least one process improvement to increase efficiency or accuracy, developed strong working relationships across the Finance team and with stakeholders, and demonstrated proficiency with Circle's accounting technology stack.

Within your first six months, you will have full ownership of the month-end close process with minimal supervision, successfully supported a quarterly or annual audit cycle, identified and implemented additional process improvements that enhance scalability, and become a trusted advisor to business partners on accounting matters.

Within your first year, you will have consistently delivered accurate, timely financial closes and reporting, contributed to strategic finance initiatives beyond core accounting responsibilities, mentored or supported other team members in accounting best practices, and identified opportunities for your own growth and expanded responsibilities within the organization.
