Role Description
As a Senior Business Analyst – Pricing (Merchant Pricing), you will play a critical role in shaping how ShipBob prices its products and services across different customer segments and geographies. This position sits at the intersection of data analytics, strategic pricing, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will be responsible for conducting deep data analysis and competitive research to determine optimal pricing strategies that balance merchant value, market competitiveness, and company profitability. Your work will directly influence pricing decisions across ShipBob’s service offerings and help internal teams clearly articulate pricing logic to current and prospective merchants.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Pricing, you will partner closely with Sales, Finance, Product, Operations, and Leadership teams to respond to complex pricing questions, build predictive margin models, and continuously improve pricing methodologies. This role requires strong analytical rigor, business acumen, and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
Pricing Strategy & Analytics
Conduct in-depth analytical studies to support pricing initiatives across ShipBob’s merchant services.
Enhance existing pricing methodologies by introducing new metrics, data frameworks, and analytical rigor.
Evaluate pricing effectiveness across customer segments, service types, and geographies.
Predictive Modeling & Margin Analysis
Develop predictive tools and financial models to assess the margin profile of prospective merchants before onboarding.
Analyze cost drivers, volume assumptions, and service usage patterns to forecast profitability.
Partner with Finance and Leadership to support pricing decisions with accurate data insights.
Competitive Research & Market Intelligence
Perform detailed competitor research on similar products and fulfillment services across regional and global markets.
Identify pricing gaps, market trends, and opportunities for competitive differentiation.
Track changes in industry pricing structures and recommend proactive adjustments.
Data Insights & Reporting
Review historical pricing and performance data to identify trends, risks, and optimization opportunities.
Create clear, actionable reports and dashboards that support decision-making across teams.
Highlight potential pitfalls and propose data-driven strategies to improve pricing outcomes.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
Respond to pricing review requests from internal stakeholders and, when required, external partners.
Deliver accurate, timely, and easy-to-understand explanations of pricing logic and outcomes.
Work cross-functionally to ensure consistent messaging and understanding of ShipBob’s pricing strategy.
Process Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Document pricing processes, methodologies, and assumptions to promote transparency and scalability.
Source, validate, and consolidate data from multiple internal systems and teams.
Support ad hoc research requests and special projects as business needs evolve.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
Education & Experience
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related field (required).
Minimum 4 years of professional experience in core data analytics, business analysis, or pricing analytics.
Technical Expertise
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, modeling, scenario analysis).
Strong command of SQL for querying, data extraction, and analysis.
Experience working with large datasets and transforming raw data into insights.
Analytical & Business Skills
Ability to think critically about business challenges while quickly absorbing new information.
Comfortable working in ambiguous environments with evolving priorities and tight deadlines.
