Position Purpose:
The Principal Cloud Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable, and efficient cloud infrastructure to power Bayer’s Drug Innovation Platform. This role integrates DevSecOps practices to enable faster innovation cycles while ensuring data security and compliance. You will mentor engineers, define cloud strategies, and lead end-to-end infrastructure transformation projects.
The Principal Cloud Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable, and efficient cloud infrastructure to power Bayer’s Drug Innovation Platform. This role integrates DevSecOps practices to enable faster innovation cycles while ensuring data security and compliance. You will mentor engineers, define cloud strategies, and lead end-to-end infrastructure transformation projects.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement cloud infrastructure strategies aligned with enterprise goals.
- Design scalable, resilient, and secure systems for multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and governance using IaC tools.
- Ensure systems are compliant with data protection, privacy, and audit requirements.
- Collaborate with software and data engineering teams to operationalize architecture designs.
- Develop automation scripts for system updates, patching, and monitoring.
- Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and drive long-term solutions.
- Mentor engineers and establish best practices for DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement and oversee “Governance as Code” and “Quality as Code” methodologies.
- Define technical standards and ensure compliance with architectural guidelines.
- Advise leadership on future technology trends and infrastructure modernization strategies.
Required Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related engineering field.
- 15+ years of infrastructure or cloud engineering experience.
- Deep knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and cloud architecture.
- Expertise in virtualization, containers, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions.
- Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
- Proven track record of large-scale infrastructure design and optimization.
- Experience in automation, monitoring, and reliability engineering.
- Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and microservices deployment practices.
- Advanced certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Expert preferred.
